What to Do After a Water Main Break/ Boil Advisory

Macedonia, OH

A recent water main break caused depressurization and a temporary boil advisory in parts of Twinsburg, Macedonia and Northfield. Although the advisory has since been lifted, the situation is a helpful reminder that Northeast Ohio homeowners should know what to do when water service is restored. After a water main break or plumbing repair, sediment can collect inside faucet aerators. Follow your water provider’s instructions, flush your cold-water lines and clean the aerator screens on your faucets. Cleveland Water also recommends using cold tap water for drinking, cooking and preparing baby formula—especially in homes that may contain lead service lines or older plumbing materials. If your water remains discolored, pressure does not return to normal or you notice a leak after service is restored, the problem may be within your home’s plumbing system.
